Be the showstopper at your wedding
With the wedding season around the corner, most brides-to-be have their hands full with preparations for the big day. Amidst all the hectic arrangements, she has to ensure that she looks like the showstopper of her wedding. And that can be done with no stress involved if you have the right expertise at hand. The perfect look for the wedding day and all the other functions around it is a combination of the perfect ensemble and the right makeup that complements it. This bridal season, Lakme has brought together a Bridal Dream Team of bridal couturier Manish Malhotra and makeup expert Cory Walia, a renowned name in bridal makeup. With Gloss as the theme and Kareena Kapoor Khan as their muse, Manish with his couture expertise will bring forth some never-seen-before ensembles, while Cory will set the bridal makeup mantras of the season.
We got chatting with the team and their muse after the grand finale of the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 which saw Manish present a gloss inspired collection with Kareena as the showstopper. Excerpts:
Tell us about your finale collection.
I was inspired by the beauty statement of Gloss, which is an international trend and hot for winters. My collection is for the neo-bride, who is not afraid to experiment and is looking to express her own individuality. High on gloss and shine, the line has a lot of contemporary mirror work and textured shimmer. There are also innovative cuts and silhouettes.
What should a bride-to-be wear this bridal season?
Firstly, she should allow herself to experiment - while the wedding day is usually traditional, the other functions allow her to set her rules. Instead of the traditional reds and pinks, go for colours, like wine, burgundy, silver and even grey (that I have given to Kareena here). The fabrics I've worked with are specially treated textured silks, velvets, flowy chiffons and soft nets. Another big trend is that of a gown sari - a perfect choice for a cocktail.
Can you tell us the upcoming trends to watch out for this bridal season? Inspired by international runways, the hot trend of gloss with well-hydrated dewy skin and hi-shine makeup is all set for a traditional interpretation. I urge brides to go for glossy finished lips in shades of reds and plums and jewel-toned lined eyes. Also, don't forget the nails - instead of a normal nail colour, opt for gel-based high gloss nail colour that perfectly compliments your manicures.
What are the season's must-haves from the latest collection?
Lakme's new Absolute Gloss Collection has some festive new shades in the Gloss Addict Lip colour, Gloss Stylist lacquered lip gloss and the Gel Stylist nail colour. My hot favourite are the recently launched Gel Addict eyeliners. This creamy gel eyeliner glides on smoothly; has a rich glossy finish and is completely smudgeproof. It comes in lovely jewel toned shades, like teal, bronze and wine.

Another season of LFW, where you were the showstopper for the grand finale. How different was this season?
Thanks to Lakme, I've got the opportunity to work with such a diversity of talent. This season was almost like a full circle - Manish and I helped launch Lakme Absolute three years back and we are now back with Absolute Gloss. I love the Gloss Addict lipcolours that were launched in May, so much so that the new collection launched with LFW has shades in plums, reds and wines, handpicked by me. A limited edition of these new shades even comes with my signature.read more: SheinDressAU blue bridesmaid dresses
